Get to Know the ROI

Dr. Kuban

We expect this year’s ASTRO Annual Meeting to be virtually the best medical and scientific conference around! While we will miss seeing all of our friends and colleagues, the virtual platform will offer many new ways for us to connect and learn about the field of radiation oncology, including providing you an opportunity to get to know the Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI), ASTRO’s Research Foundation. We invite you to visit the ROI’s booth in the virtual Exhibit Hall where you can find out more about the research being funded and the generous donors who make it all possible.

The virtual Exhibit Hall will be open for a week this year, from Friday, October 23 through Thursday, October 29, giving you more time to stop by and explore the ROI booth. ROI Board members and staff will be available from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern time daily, and we encourage you to grab a cup of coffee or tea and take some time to chat with us. Next year, the coffee or tea will be on us!

We were so happy to announce the ROI’s Improving Diversity and Inclusion in Radiation Oncology Award Winners earlier this year, and we hope you will enjoy learning a little more about their research projects by watching the videos of the investigators that will be available at the virtual booth. Other resources for you at the booth will include the new Biomarkers for Radiation Oncology requests for proposals, fact sheets, quotes from ROI donors and researchers, recognition of our leadership donors, an introduction to our new Legacy Challenge, and much more. The winner of this year’s ROI Publication Award, Robert T. Dess, MD, will also be featured. If you’re looking for results from ROI research, a link to the presentation by Adam Wolfe, MD, PhD, about his team’s work to find a molecular signature to identify which patients with pancreatic cancer could benefit from radiation therapy will be accessible from the ROI booth.

We are also pleased to offer consultations about personal financial planning with Russell LaGreca, CFP, CIMA, CRPS, from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. A presentation by Mr. LaGreca about the SECURE Act and its impact on personal finances will be available on demand to all meeting attendees starting Monday, October 26. Please contact Janet Hedrick, Director of Development for the ROI, by email or by phone at 703-839-7340 to schedule your appointment with Mr. LaGreca.

Become better acquainted with your research foundation by visiting the ROI booth in the virtual Exhibit Hall. We would be delighted to discuss with you all the wonderful research that the ROI is funding and how you can show your support by making a contribution. Whether you choose to give through our Step Up for Research campaign, make a monthly gift, or become a leadership donor, you will be helping to advance research important to your practice and your patients. We look forward to seeing you at the virtual ROI booth!
